WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior goalie Kelly Casey (New Egypt, N.J.) has been selected as the Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week after recording 21 saves over two games against Lafayette and Columbia this past weekend. This marks the first Patriot League honor Casey has received as a member of the Holy Cross field hockey team.
On Saturday, Casey notched 12 saves on the way 2-1 stroke-off victory against fellow Patriot League opponent, Lafayette. Lafayette combined for 13 shots-on-goal in the game, allowing Casey to record a season-high .092 save percentage. The 12 saves were also second-most for her this season.
The following day, Casey registered an additional nine saves on 11 shots-on-goal, a .082 save percentage in the team's 1-0 loss to Columbia. Her 21 total saves from the weekend give her 96 saves in 14 games played, 70 more than the 26 saves she recorded previously in her career. She currently ranks second in the league in saves as well.
The Crusaders will host their second Patriot League opponent, third overall, on Saturday, Oct. 17 when they take on Colgate. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at the Hart Turf Field in Worcester, Mass.
