Field Hockey Picked To Finish Fifth In Patriot League Preseason Poll
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team was selected to finish fifth in the 2009 Patriot League Preseason Poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. American was picked to finish first for the seventh straight season.
American, coming off a sixth straight Patriot League Tournament title, earned 49 points and nine first-place votes. Lafayette was selected to finish second with 42 points and three first-place votes. Rounding out the voting was Colgate (34 points), Bucknell (27), Holy Cross (16) and Lehigh (12).
The Crusaders finished last season with a 7-11 record under first-year head coach Alicia Hawk. This season the team will return eight starters and welcome seven newcomers. The team will host an exhibition game against Brown at 11:00 a.m. on August 29 at the Hart Turf Field before the 2009 season officially begins on Sept. 3 when the team travels to Storrs, Conn. to take on Connecticut at 7:00 p.m.
