Worcester, Mass. - Senior Lisa Andrews (Concord, Mass.) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced by the League this afternoon. Andrews led the Crusaders to a 2-0 start to the 2004-2005 campaign this weekend, with big wins over Providence and Buffalo.
Andrews, an All-League Second Team selection a year ago, went for 12 points on a 5-for-10 performance from the floor in a 68-40 win over Providence on Friday night. The 6-foot-3 center also grabbed five rebounds, and had two steals and a block. On Sunday afternoon, Andrews led the team to a 73-42 victory over Buffalo with a game-high 19 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the field. She also tallied four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. The Massachusetts native is currently tied for second in the Patriot League in scoring with 15.5 ppg. She also helped the Holy Cross defense force 55 turnovers in the Crusaders' weekend sweep.
Andrews is currently ranked fourth in blocked shots (148) in Patriot League history. Last season, she recorded 69 blocks en route to a Top 25 national ranking with 2.5 blocks per game. She has three blocks in two games this season.
Holy Cross hosts the University of Massachusetts on Tuesday, November 23 in a 7:00 p.m. match-up at the Hart Center. All fans who bring a canned good to support the Worcester County Food Drive will be admitted into the game for $1.
