Worcester, Mass. - Freshman point guard Laura Aloisi (Nashua, N.H.) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for her performances this past week as announced by League officials today. This is the first league honor of Aloisi's short career.
Last Tuesday in a heartbreaking 61-60 loss to UMass, the New Hampshire native had a game-high and a career-high 11 assists, to go along with three points, two steals, and a rebound. This past weekend, Aloisi had a team-high and a career-high 14 points in a tough 66-65 loss to UAB. She also tied for a team-high three assists, pulled down three rebounds, and went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. On Sunday, in an 89-46 thrashing of Iona, the 5-foot-9 guard went for a game-high six helpers, and tied for a team-high with three thefts.
Through five games, Aloisi leads the team and the league in assists with 37, more than doubling the total of the next closest player in that category. Aloisi is averaging 5.6 points and 7.4 assists. She also has nine steals, good for second on the team, and 11 rebounds on the season.
Holy Cross (3-2) enters one of its most difficult stretches of the season this week, hosting #20 Boston College (3-1) on Wednesday, December 1 at 8:00 p.m., and then traveling to reigning National Champion Connecticut on Sunday, December 5 for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off at the Hartford Civic Center.
