Worcester, Mass. - Junior Jessica Conte (New Canaan, Conn.) earned her first career Patriot League Player of the Week award after propelling Holy Cross to an 80-74 win over Colgate on Saturday.
Conte came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points in 22 minutes of play on 6-of-8 (.750) shooting from the floor, including a 3-of-4 performance from long range. The 5-foot-7 guard also converted all three of her free throw attempts, grabbed three rebounds and had a team-high three steals. In addition, Conte tied a season-high with four assists, which also tied for team-high honors.
The Connecticut native also earned the Holy Cross Club of Worcester Homecoming Game MVP after Saturday's game.
Conte is fifth on the team in scoring with 6.8 ppg. She averages 2.6 rebounds per game and has 37 assists on the season. She is second on the team in steals this season with 46 and she ranks fifth in the Patriot League (conference games only) with 28 steals (2.33 apg). Conte also ranks fifth in the league (all games) in three-point field goal percent, shooting 37.0% (27 for 73), and is tied for 11th in three-point field goals made (27).
With Saturday's win, Holy Cross is now 11-1 in conference play and can win the Patriot League regular season title with a win over Bucknell on Wednesday. The 16-9 Crusaders match-up with the Bison at 7:00 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion. Holy Cross leads the series, 28-7 and is 13-4 when playing in Lewisburg, Pa.
