Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross senior guard Brittany Keil (Sparta, N.J.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic District I University Division First Team, as announced by CoSIDA officials. The six-foot-two Keil was a District I First Team selection last season and Second Team selection in 2005.
A Biology major with a BioChemistry concentration, Keil has been on the Dean's List every semester of her Holy Cross career. She earned a 3.94 grade-point average during the Fall 2006 semester. With her selection, Keil advances to the national ballot, where she will have a chance to join former Holy Cross greats Amy O'Brien, Kathy Courtney, Ann Lambiotte and Sherry Levin as the program's fifth Academic All-American.
Keil, who was a Patriot League preseason all-conference pick, currently leads the team in rebounding this season with a 6.7 rebounds per game average. She is also tied first on the team in blocks (15 blocks) and fourth in scoring with 9.3 points per game.
Joining Keil on the University Division District I team are Katie Meinhardt of Boston University, Brittney Cross of University of Vermont, Ashley Taylor of Dartmouth College and Lizanne Murphy of Hofstra University.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better.
Holy Cross is currently 9-16 overall and 4-6 in the Patriot League. The Crusaders face Navy Tuesday before heading back to the Hart Center to host American and Colgate on Saturday and Tuesday.
