PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) scored 15 points but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross women's basketball team dropped a 74-53 decision to St. Joseph's, on Monday afternoon at the Hawk Classic, hosted at Philadelphia University's Gallagher Center. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-10 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 7-6.
Locked at 7-7 after the first five minutes, St. Joseph's edged ahead by six with back-to-back three-pointers by Jenna Loschiavo. The Crusaders trailed by three points, 22-19, at the 5:29 mark, but the Hawks finished the half on a 17-8 run for a 39-27 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Crusaders never got closer than 11 points as the Hawks held Holy Cross to just 8-of-32 (25 percent) from the field. Brittany Ford (14 points) was one of five Hawks to score in double-figures.
In addition to her 15 points, McFadden finished with four rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) was the only other Crusader in double-figures with 11 points and a game-best eight rebounds.
Holy Cross returns to Worcester to host Maine on Friday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 p.m., after having played eight-straight games on the road.
