Worcester, Mass. - Sophomore guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) scored a team-high 14 points but it wasn't enough as Holy Cross dropped a 85-66 decision to Quinnipiac. The Crusaders fall to 4-4 while the Bobcats improve to 4-1 on the season.
Quinnipiac took an early 4-0 lead but Holy Cross wasted little time getting back into the game, going on a 7-0 run with layups by senior guard Laura Aloisi (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore guard Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) and junior forward Jessica Merrihue (Holtsville, N.Y.) hitting a three-pointer.
The Crusaders posted a nine-point lead over Quinnipiac (31-22) with 2:36 left in the first half but allowed the Bobcats to go on a 11-4 run with Erin Kerner hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer, making the halftime score 35-33 Holy Cross.
The Bobcats came out of the locker room on fire as Courtney Kaminski hit a shot from long range to give Quinnipiac its second lead of the game, 36-35. The Bobcats went on a 19-2 run, giving them a 52-37 lead with 12:13 left in the game.
Cushioning themselves 20 points over the Crusaders, Quinnipiac led Holy Cross 75-55 as Kerner scored a shot from long range. The Bobcats finished the game with a 19-point lead, making the final 85-66.
McFadden also had five rebounds, four assists and one steal while sophomore forward Tayana Carper tallied a 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds and two assists.
Quinnipiac was led by Kerner who had a team-high 24 points, four rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Holy Cross travels to Boston College for its next game, scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
