Women's Basketball Advances To Semifinals With 64-49 Win Over Lafayette

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior captain Kaitlin Foley (Albany, N.Y.) scored 21 points and had seven boards to lead the third seeded Holy Cross women's basketball team past sixth seeded Lafayette Saturday night in the Patriot League quarterfinals at Alumni Hall. The Crusaders will face seventh seeded Lehigh Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the semifinals following the 1:00 p.m. game between fourth seeded American and eighth seeded Colgate.
Freshman Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) scored 16 points while Patriot League Rookie of the Year Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) scored 12 points and added six rebounds. Brittany Keil added nine points, handed out four assists and had four steals.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game with Foley scoring four and McFadden adding three of the first nine points. Lafayette retaliated with a 10-2 run to take the lead for the first time in the game (12-11) at 10:12. The Leopards outscored the Crusaders 8-5 to keep the lead until Holy Cross knotted the game at 20 with 4:43 remaining in the first half. Both teams gained the lead once more before halftime. The Crusaders went into the break with a three point advantage (27-24).
The Crusaders came out of the locker room and scored 10-6 to increase their lead to seven (37-30). Holy Cross gained a 10 point advantage at 10:50 (45-35) and again with just over three minutes remaining in the game (56-46). Holy Cross kept the lead for the rest of the game and did not allow Lafayette to come any closer than 11 points. The Crusaders held on to win by 15 points, 64-49.
