Holy Cross Rolls To 74-61 Victory

West Point, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Brittany Keil scored all of her 16 points in the second half and seniors Lisa Andrews and Maggie Fontana added 14 and 13 points, respectively to lead Holy Cross to a 74-61 win over Army Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena. The Crusaders finish the regular season with a 17-10 overall mark and a 12-2 record in conference play, while Army dips to 15-12 (8-6 Patriot League) going into next week's Patriot League Tournament.
Sophomore center Kaitlin Foley finished the game with a season-high 11 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor. Keil grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Andrews pulled down six boards, and Fontana had a game-high six assists.
Holy Cross went into the half up 36-29 after opening the game on a 12-3 run just four minutes in. Andrews had six of HC's first eight points and finished with 10 points at the break. Jessica Conte converted on a traditional three-point play which started a 9-2 run for the Crusaders, giving the Purple and White a 23-11 advantage with 8:28 left in the first. The Black Knights fought back and got within four (33-29) after stringing together an 11-4 run late in the half, but a Conte trey with 26 seconds to go put HC back up 7 at intermission. The Crusaders shot 50% (16-32) from the floor in the first stanza, while holding Army to 34%.
The Crusaders started the second on a 6-2 run and held their lead, never trailing the entire game. They went up by as much as 14 points on two different occasions with less than 5:00 remaining to close out the game.
Jill Busch scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Black Knights. Shavonne Holden added 14 and Micky Mallette tallied 11 for Army.
HC will be the #1 seed and will tip-off against #8 Lafayette on Thursday night in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament. Game time is 8:00 p.m. at the Hart Center.
