Holy Cross Beats Colgate by 20, 67-47

WORCESTER, Mass.- Senior captain Kaitlin Foley (Albany, N.Y.) scored her 1000th career point against Colgate on Tuesday night at the Hart Center to become the 23rd player in the history of Holy Cross women's basketball to reach this goal. Foley scored 23 points and had five rebounds to lead the Crusaders to a 67-47 victory over the Raiders in Holy Cross' last regular season home game. This win strengthens Holy Cross's overall record to 12-16 and 7-6 in the patriot league, while Colgate falls to 4-9 in the league.
The first half opened with a quick lead of 4-0 in favor of Colgate. The Crusaders fought back with seven unanswered points all from Foley to bring the score to 7-4. With three lead changes and four tie scores, the game remained close until Holy Cross pulled away with 4:51 left in the first half with a jumper from freshman Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) for a score of 19-17. O'Dell added 12 points and tied her own record of seven rebounds throughout the night's game. During this run, freshman Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) contributed seven points, with a game total of 11.The Crusaders kept their lead and entered the locker room for half-time with a 26-18 advantage over the Raiders.
Freshman Christy Cushnie (Vienna, Va.) initiated the scoring for Holy Cross in the second half with a lay up 2:30 into the period. Cushnie had a season and career high of six assists. Colgate went on a 10-2 run to tie the score at 28-28 with a free throw from Shevrone Martin. This run, however, was not enough for the Raiders as the Crusaders held the lead for the remainder of the game. Holy Cross continued to pull away throughout the half with the help of senior Brittany Keil (Sparta, N.J.) who put up six points and four rebounds, as well as junior Ashley McLaughlin (Andover, Mass.) who added three points and two rebounds. The Crusaders finished with a 20 point advantage over the Raiders with a score of 67-47 to conclude the game.
Holy Cross returns to action at Lehigh on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for their final regular season game.
