LEWISBURG, Pa. - Hope Foster recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bucknell women's basketball team past Holy Cross 63-37 in conference action Friday night at the Sojka Pavilion. With the loss the Crusaders drop to 9-16 overall and 4-6 in the league as the Bison improve to 17-8 on the season and 9-1 in the conference.
Bucknell jumped out to a 17-4 lead at 10:42 after sophomore guard Amanda Brown scored eight points and junior forward Foster put up seven for the Bison. Holy Cross didn't score one from the field until 9:39 as its first four points came from the line. Bucknell went on a 17-10 run to take a 20 point lead (34-14) with 2:16 left in the first half and went into the break with a 19 point advantage (37-18).
The Bison shot 53.3 percent from the field and held the Crusaders to just 18.5 percent at the half. Brown led Bucknell with 11 points while senior center Kaitlin Foley (Albany, N.Y.) had nine points for Holy Cross.
Junior forward Ashley McLaughlin (Andover, Mass.) came out of the locker room to score the Crusaders first six points of the second half, but Bucknell outscored Holy Cross 11-8 to increase its lead to 22 (48-26) at 14:51. The Bison followed up with seven unanswered points (55-26) before the Crusaders went on an 11-4 streak (59-37), but it wasn't enough as Bucknell held on to win by 26 (63-37).
Bucknell held Holy Cross to just 28.6 percent from the field. Foster led the Bison with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Foley had 13 points and eight boards for the Crusaders.
Holy Cross remains on the road to face Navy Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
