WEST POINT, N.Y. - Cara Enright had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Army past the Holy Cross women's basketball team 77-43 in Patriot League action Tuesday night at Christl Arena. The Crusaders drop to 9-15 overall and 4-5 in the league while the Black Knights improve to 20-4 on the season and 7-2 in the conference.
Army jumped out to a 7-2 start, but freshman Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) and senior Brittany Keil (Sparta, N.J.) each hit one from the long range to stay within one in the first five minutes of play (9-8). The Black Knights went on a 7-0 run to take an eight point lead at 12:59 (16-8). The Crusaders came back with a 5-0 streak, but Army followed up with a 13-2 run to go ahead by 14 with just over seven minutes left in the first half (15-29). The Black Knights scored nine unanswered points to take a 21 point lead with less than three minutes left in the half and went into the break with a 20 point lead (43-23).
Army shot 60.7 percent from the field with Cara Enright leading the Black Knights with eight points at the half. Holy Cross was held to 33.3 percent from the field.
The Black Knights started out the second half 11-9 (56-32) to increase the lead to 24. They followed up with 16 unanswered points to take a 40 point advantage (72-32) with 6:20 left in the second half. Army held on to win by 34 (77-43).
Keil led Holy Cross with 10 points and six rebounds while freshman Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) had eight points.
The Crusaders return to action Friday when they travel to play Bucknell at 4:30 p.m.
