Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross extended its winning streak to eight games with a 71-57 win over Navy on Friday night at the Hart Center in front of a crowd of 1,132. The Crusaders improve to 13-8 overall (8-0 Patriot League), while Navy drops to 7-14 (3-5 Patriot League).
Three Crusaders were in double figures led by senior center Lisa Andrews' 14 points and seven boards. Sarah Placek tallied 12 points, three assists and three steals, and Shannon Bush added 11 points and five rebounds.
Holy Cross led from start to finish, while shooting 48% from the field and converting 13-of-19 foul shots. Senior Maggie Fontana had nine points and tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds. Freshman Ashley McLaughlin registered a career-high four rejections on the night, while fellow frosh Laura Aloisi had a team-high four set-ups.
Navy was led by Abi Campbell's game-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc. Nikki Curtis added 14 points and five boards while the Midshipmen also got 11 points, six rebounds and a game-high six assists from Lauren Skrel.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 34-15 halftime lead, after holding Navy to just 20% shooting from the floor. The Crusaders also forced 13 turnovers, while the Midshipmen managed just six baskets in the first twenty minutes.
The Crusaders put their eight-game winning streak on the line on Sunday when they play host to American University at 1:00 p.m. at the Hart Center. The 20th annual Holy Cross women's basketball Alumni game will also be held on the Hart Center floor on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
