WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior center Kaitlin Foley (Albany, N.Y.) scored 17 points and had five boards to lead the Holy Cross women's basketball team past Navy, 49-39 for its first conference win of the season Tuesday night at the Hart Center. Holy Cross improves to 6-12 overall and 1-3 in the league as Navy falls to 7-10 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Navy took an early lead going 7-4 from the start, but Holy Cross retaliated with an 11-2 run to take a six point lead at 8:30 (15-9). The Crusaders had an 11 point advantage with just over three minutes to play in the first half after a 10-2 streak which included two three-pointers from freshman guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) and four points from Foley. Holy Cross went into the break with a nine point lead, 25-16.
Holy Cross came out of the locker room to go on an 8-4 run to increase the lead to 13 (33-20). The Crusaders kept the lead for the remainder of the game getting as high as a 14 point advantage at 12:49. Holy Cross did not allow the Mids to come any closer than seven points through the second half as they sealed the win by 10 points.
Freshman Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) scored 11 points and had four assists while Ashley McLaughlin (Andover, Mass.) added eight rebounds and McFadden had four assists. Carly Meyer led Navy with 10 points.
Holy Cross goes on the road to face Dartmouth in non-conference action Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
