HANOVER, N.H. - Junior guard Briana McFadden (Wheaton, Md.) totaled 18 points, seven rebounds and one steal as the Holy Cross women's basketball defeated Dartmouth, 57-45, at Leede Arena on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 4-10 on the season while the Big Green falls to 3-9. Junior Bethany O'Dell (Lincoln, R.I.) was also strong on the floor for Holy Cross, scoring all of her nine points and pulling down all of her three rebounds in the second half while finishing with four assists and three steals.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the opening minutes, but Dartmouth battled back to take a slight lead, 8-6. The lead continued to be tossed between the teams, but the Crusaders pulled away from an 18-18 tie, grabbing their largest lead of the half with a 9-2 run, led by McFadden. The Big Green chipped away at Holy Cross' lead, cutting their deficit to three points at the break, 27-24.
The Crusaders started the second half with a 13-2 run with back-to-back shots from outside the arc and a shot from the free by McFadden. Dartmouth got within 10 points of the Crusaders twice including the final two minutes of the game, but would get no further as Holy Cross finished with a 12-point victory, 57-45.
Sophomore forward Elizabeth Campbell (Louisville, Ky.) finished the game with eight points, seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals and one assist while senior guard Jessica Pearson (West Chester, Pa.) had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Brittney Smith led Dartmouth with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, January 7, hosting Bryant at 7:00 p.m. in its final non-conference game of the season. The Crusaders begin Patriot League play on the road against Lafayette on Saturday, January 10 at 1:00 p.m.
