Smith Named To Academic All-Patriot League Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) was named to the women's basketball Academic All-Patriot League team, as selected by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter of key player in his/her sport. This is the second straight season Smith has earned Academic All-Patriot League accolades.

Smith, a psychology major with a 3.41 cumulative grade point average, was recently named first team All-Patriot League for the 2013-2014 season. She has averaged 13.7 points, 5.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds per contest this year, while hitting 40.6 percent of her field goals (142 of 350) and 37.3 percent of her three-point attempts (81 of 217). She currently stands first in the Patriot League in assists and three-pointers made (2.8), second in steals (1.8), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.0), ninth in three-point percentage as well as in points per game. Smith has led the Crusaders in scoring in eight contests this season and has had 22 double-digit scoring games. This season, Smith became the Patriot League's all-time three-pointers made leader, as she currently has 341 in her career.

A two-time captain, Smith was named to the Patriot League Academic honor roll last season. She is also a three-year member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy. Smith was a candidate for both the Senior CLASS Award and the WBCA Good Works Team this season.

Holy Cross (18-11, 10-8 Patriot League) returns to action on Thursday, March 6, when it travels to Bucknell in a quarterfinal round game of the Patriot League Tournament. The contest between the Crusaders and Bison is set for 7:00 p.m.
