WORCESTER, Mass. – Head coach Bill Gibbons and the women's basketball program held its annual golf outing on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at the Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester, Mass. Over 20 people participated in the tournament benefiting the women's basketball program. After golf, the participants, the current team and the women's basketball coaching staff sat down to lunch and honored former guard Anna Kinne Patel '00.
Patel was a four-year letter winner for the Holy Cross women's basketball team, leading the squad to three Patriot League championships. She was selected Most Valuable Player in the Patriot League Tournament twice and was named Patriot League Player of the Year in 1999-2000. During her time at Holy Cross, the Crusaders had an overall record of 88-28 and were 44-4 in the Patriot League. Inducted in the Holy Cross Hall of Fame in 2008, Patel is the school's all-time leader in steals with 333. For her career, she had 1,234 points, 532 assists and 163 three-pointers made. After graduation, she was an assistant coach for the Crusaders for five seasons and helped guide the squad to three NCAA Tournament appearances and one WNIT appearance.
"Our 18th annual legends golf tournament was a big success," Gibbons said. "The mix of friends and family of the program, alumnae and our current team and coaches made it a special day at Green Hill. Our legend, Anna Kinne Patel, gave a terrific message to our team in her speech. She and her family members really enjoyed the day! Finally, kudos to our rookie assistant coach, Matt Raquet, who did a great job organizing this 'friend-raiser'."
