WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named the Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second straight week after scoring 30 points in two games. Smith led the team in scoring against Army on Feb. 9 and followed with an 11-point performance at Bucknell on Feb. 12, extending her double-figure scoring streak to three games.
Smith went 10-for-21 from the field last week, also hitting 53.8 percent of her three-point field goal attempts (seven of 13). She added eight assists, seven rebounds and three assists over the two games as well. On the season, Smith averaged 11.6 points and leads the team with 78 assists. She has combined for 70 three-points shots made in 183 attempts, ranking second in the Holy Cross single-season records list for three-pointers made and tied for second in three-pointers attempted. Her average of 2.9 three-point shots made per game ranking 12th nationally.
Holy Cross (9-16, 5-5) wraps its three-game road stretch on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at first-place Navy (14-10, 7-3). The Crusaders and Midshipmen will face off for the second time this season at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md., beginning at 7:00 p.m.
