WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman guard Alex Smith (Delran, N.J.) has been named the Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after leading the team with 20 points in an 83-46 win over Lafayette on Saturday, Feb. 5. Smith went seven of 13 from the floor against the Leopards, knocking down four three-point field goals and dishing out five assists in the team's 37-point victory, earning the team's Winter Homecoming game MVP award as well.
Smith also grabbed four rebounds and turned the ball over just one time on Saturday. On the season, Smith ranks second on the team with 11.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 37.2 percent from the floor (83 of 223). Sixty-three of her field goals made have come as three-point shots, which now ties for third in the Holy Cross single season records list for three-pointers made in a season. One hundred-seventy of her field goal attempts have come as three-point shots as well, which ties for fourth in Holy Cross single season records. Smith ranks first amongst league leaders in three-pointers made per game (2.9), which also ranks 20th in the nation.
Holy Cross (8-15, 4-4) hits the road for a three-game stretch, starting with a trip to play Army (11-11, 5-3) on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The Crusaders visit the Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. for a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Black Knights.
