Holy Cross Picked Fifth In Patriot League Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team was selected fifth in the 2010-2011 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. American was chosen to finish first, receiving nine first-place votes as senior forward Michelle Kirk was also voted Preseason Player of the Year.

American earned a league-high 93 points and was followed closely behind by reigning Patriot League Champion, Lehigh, who received seven first place votes and 91 points. Navy was picked third with 70 points, while Army (59 points) and Holy Cross (42) were selected fourth and fifth respectively. Colgate and Lafayette tied for sixth place with 40 votes and Bucknell wrapped up the standings in eighth place with 31 points. The preseason All-Patriot League team was announced as well and included American's Kirk and Liz Leer, Navy's Angela Myers, Army's Erin Anthony and Lehigh's Erica Prosser.

The Crusaders finished last season with a 10-21 overall record, going 5-9 in league play. The 2010-2011 squad returns three starters, welcomes five newcomers and will be led by head coach Bill Gibbons in his 26th season. The team will host Assumption in an exhibition game at the Hart Center at 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 2 before opening up the regular season at home against Yale on Nov. 12.
