Bronx, N.Y. - The Holy Cross men's and women's cross country team traveled to Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. to participate in the NCAA Regional meet, hosted by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Freshman Kyle Rougeot (Torrington, Conn.) was the fastest entry on the men's team, finishing in 35:35.5. Sophomore Colleen Spilka (Hamden, Conn.) took the top spot for the Crusaders, covering the course in 24:26.7. Nationally ranked at #4 Iona won the men's competition, while unranked Boston College edged out #19 Iona to take the women's meet.
Freshman Garrett Huddy (Pataskala, Ohio) concluded the season on a strong note by crossing the line in 36:23. Senior John Ortolani (Williamsville, N.Y.) was close behind Huddy, finishing in 36:37.6. Three sophomores would round out the field of Crusaders: Matthew Talbot (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) and Robert Farrelly (East Northport, N.Y.) would take the fourth, fifth and sixth spots for Holy Cross. Talbot would cross the line in 36:49.4, while Mish and Farrelly would finish in 37:18.8 and 39:49.3, respectively.
While Spilka led the women across the line, freshman Margaret Fox (Natick, Mass.) was right on her heels, finishing only five second behind her in 24:31.3. Sophomore Elizabeth Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) took the third Crusader spot, finishing close behind Fox and Spilka, in 24:47.7. Freshman Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) covered the course in 26:12.5. Junior Kathleen O'Gorman (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.) rounded out the Crusader entries crossing the line in 26:33.9 and 26:45.0, respectively.
The Holy Cross men's team finished in 29th place out of 41 teams registered. The women's team finished 26th out of the 41 teams at the event.
