New Britain, Conn. - The Holy Cross women's cross country finished in fifth place in a very competitive field at the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet. Meanwhile the men took seventh place. Rhode Island and Stony Brook won the women's and men's races, respectively.
The Crusader women totaled 139 team points on the day to finish in fifth as the men took seventh with 132 points. With 32 points, the Rhode Island women were victorious. The Stony Brook men's team won with 56 points.
Leading the Holy Cross women was freshman Colleen Spilka (Hamden, Conn.) who finished in 16th place with a time of 11:51. In 26th place was Katie O'Gorman (West Hartford, Conn.) while sophomore Meghan Lytle (Lewiston, N.Y.) finished 30th overall. Both runners had times of 12:13 and 12:19, respectively. Christie Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.) rounded out the Crusader scoring.
On the men's side, the Crusaders were lead by freshman Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.). Fidelus ran in time of 16:42 which was good for 20th place overall. Following him were freshman Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) and junior Patrick Clifford (Haworth, N.J.) who finished in 22nd and 26th place, respectively. Finishing the scoring were David Arnett (Orange, Conn.) and Brian Miller (Wayne, N.J.).
Both Holy Cross teams will be racing again on Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. in the Patriot League Championships. The races will be hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.
