Boston, Mass. - Freshman Elizabeth Alizzi (Syosset, N.Y.) again led the Crusaders in the 5K race with a time of 19:57 and was helped by the running of freshman Colleen Spilka (Hamden, Conn.)(20:22) as the women's cross country team place 34th in the New England Championships. On the men's side, the Crusaders finished 37th overall behind the strong running of junior Stephen Kress (Portland, Maine)(27:27) and senior Timothy Murphy (Wayne, N.J.)(27:56) in the 8K race.
Following up the freshman duo of Alizzi and Spilka were Christie Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine), Megan Murphy (Spokane, Wash.), and Katie O'Gorman (West Hartford, Conn.), who all finished under 22 minutes. The women took 34th place with a total of 936 points.
For the men's squad, Kress and Murphy were backed up by John Ortolani (Williamsville, N.Y.), Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) and Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.). With 1015 total points the men took 37th place overall.
Next on the schedule for both teams is the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m.
