BRONX, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's and women's cross country teams traveled to the NCAA Northeast Regional on Friday morning as the women's team finished 24th while the men took 28th. Senior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) was the top Crusader finisher for the women's team with a time of 22:03.60 (81st) on the 6K course. Junior John Cicchitti (Warminster, Pa.) led the men's team with a time of 32:58.10 (145th) on the 10K course
Other top performers on the women's side included sophomore Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) who crossed the finish line at 22:45.00 (139th) and senior Amanda Waldron (Walpole, Mass.) who finished at 23:01.70 (162nd). The four other participants for Holy Cross stuck together as freshmen Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished back-to-back with times of 23:03.40 (164th) and 23:05.70 (165th), respectively. Freshman Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.) and senior Sandra van den Heuvel (Nashua, N.H.) also finished back-to-back, posting times of 23:10.70 (169th) and 23:11.70 (170th), respectively.
On the men's side, sophomore Dennis Muldoon (Weymouth, Mass.) finished behind Cicchitti with a time of 33:17.20 (167th) followed by senior Dylan Villescas (Las Cruces, N.M.) who crossed the finish line at 33:23.90 (173rd). Sophomores Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Chris Conley (Walpole, Mass.), junior Joseph Seebode (Clark, N.J.) and freshman G. Matt Greco (Blue Bell, Pa.) rounded out the Crusader participants.
Select members of the men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the final race of the 2013 season on Nov. 23 at the IC4A/ECAC Championship.
