WORCESTER, Mass. – Four members of the Holy Cross cross country teams have been named Patriot League Runners of the Week for their performances in the New England Championship (10/7), as announced by the league. Sophomore John Cicchitti (Warminster, Pa.) finished 21st of 261 runners with a time of 24:58.82 to lead the men's team while junior Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) took 27th of 251 runners in the women's race with a time of 18:01.28 for the top Holy Cross finish. It is the first time Cicchitti and Hughes have been named Patriot League Runner of the Week, while Hughes was also named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after the New England Championship in 2010.
Freshmen Dennis Muldoon (Weymouth, Mass.) and Caroline Carley (Barrington, Ill.) were each named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the first time in their careers. Muldoon was the top freshman finisher in the men's race with a career-best time of 26:06.16. Carley was the top women's freshman and crossed the finish line with at time of 18:55.11.
The cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Central Connecticut Mini Meet. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. while the men will start at 4:00 p.m.
