Men's Cross Country Preps For Two Races This Weekend

Schedule: Friday, Sept. 14 at National Catholic Championship, South Bend, Ind., 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 15 at UMass Dartmouth Invitational, Dartmouth, Mass., 10:30 a.m.
- The Holy Cross men's cross country team returns to action for its second meet of the season on Friday, Sept. 14, at the National Catholic Championship hosted by Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. Select members of the team will also run on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational beginning at 10:30 a.m.
- Last season, the Crusaders finished 12th of 31 teams at the National Catholic Invitational. Graduate Dan Altenau was the top finisher for Holy Cross taking 35th place with a time of 25:38. Sophomore John Cicchitti (Warminster, Pa.) finished behind Altenau with a time of 26:02. Holy Cross as a team has finished in the top-10 in six of the last eight National Catholic Championships, with over 30 teams competing each year. The Crusaders' best finish in recent history came at the 2009 race, taking fifth of 32 teams.
- The Crusaders also competed in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in 2011, finishing 20th of 35 teams. Sophomore Matt Muilenburg (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) recorded the top finish for Holy Cross at 27:24. This will be the fifth year in a row that Holy Cross runs in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
- Holy Cross began the 2012 season at the Harry Lang Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y. The course will also host the Patriot League Championship on Oct. 27. Cicchitti led the team with a time of 21:13.0.
