WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross men's and women's head cross country coach Jim Kavanagh has named seniors Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) and Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) as captains of the 2011 Holy Cross men's cross country team, and seniors Katelyn Andree (Colts Neck, N.J.), Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) and Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) as captains of the women's team.
Altenau and Loftis return to the course for their senior year after leading the men's team to a seventh place finish at the 2010 Patriot League Championship where Altenau was Holy Cross' top finisher with a 17th place finish and time of 25:30. Altenau recorded his best time of the season at the New England Championship with a team-best 28th place finish and time of 25:21, while Loftis recorded a season-best time of 26:27 at the National Catholic Championship.
Andree, Mellea and Sutherland will serve as tri-captains for the 2011 season. A year ago, Sutherland led the Crusaders in all seven of the races she competed in, including a team-best fifth place finish at the Patriot League Championship. Sutherland's best time of the season came at the National Catholic Championship where she finished 10th with a time of 18:05. Andree recorded a season-best time of 19:56 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, while Mellea also recorded a season-best time of 19:14 at the same race.
