Crusaders Set To Travel To Notre Dame And UMass-Dartmouth

  • Select members of the Holy Cross men's cross country team will travel Notre Dame, Ind. for the National Catholic Championship on Friday, Sept. 17, while other members of the team will travel to Dartmouth, Mass. for the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18.
  • The Fighting Irish will host the 31st Annual National Catholic Championship on Friday, Sept. 17. The men's race began in 1980, while the women's race started in 1984. Holy Cross' Mary McNaughton won the inaugural women's race in 1984 and is the only Crusader to take home first place.
  • At the 2009 National Catholic Championship, junior Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) placed 12th with a time of 26:03.8 to lead the Crusaders to a fifth place team finish. Senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.), junior Dan Alteneu (Eastchester, N.Y.) and sophomore Dylan Leazes (Providence, R.I.) also raced at the Championship.
  • Freshman Zach Maddigan (Middleboro, Mass.) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his performance at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11. Maddigan was the second Crusader to cross the line and first Holy Cross rookie with a 29th place finish and time of 27:46.
