Holy Cross Men's Cross Country Looks Ahead To Busy Weekend

  • The Holy Cross men's cross country team continues the 2009 season with two events this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 18 select members of the team will participate in the National Catholic Championship in Notre Dame, Ind. The competition is set to start at 3:30 p.m. Others will travel to Dartmouth, Mass. for the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19. That meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
  • Senior co-captain Tim Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) barely missed out on winning the 8k race Saturday at the Blue Devil Invitational. He finished with a time of 26:14.72, one-tenth of a second behind winner Sam Alexander of Central Connecticut. Richard's time in this year's Blue Devil Invitational was a 1:28 improvement over his finish in the same event last year.
  • Freshman Kyle Shepard (White Plains, N.Y.) had an impressive debut for the Crusaders in his first collegiate outing. He was the third-highest Holy Cross finisher and ended up 11th overall. He ran the 8k in a time of 27:06.03. He was also bookended by two other Crusaders. Sophomore Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) finished 10th with a time of 27:06.00 while sophomore Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) ran in 27:06.63.
  • Holy Cross is looking for another strong performance in this year's National Catholic Championship. Last season the Crusaders finished in sixth place out of 35 teams. Richard ran a team-best 25:49 last year for a 17th-place finish. Loftis ended the race in 52nd with a time of 26:49.
