NEW BRITIAN, Conn. - In a fight for the finish, Holy Cross men's cross country senior Tim Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) was edged out at the finish line by Central Connecticut State sophomore Sam Alexander at the Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Britian, Conn. The Crusaders finished third out of four teams with 57 points, while Brown took home the title with 44 points.
Richard led the Crusaders with a second place finish with a time of 26:14.72, falling to Alexander by one tenth of a second. Sophomore Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) finished tenth for Holy Cross with a time of 27:06.00. Freshman Kyle Shepard (White Plains, N.Y.) and sophomore Corey Loftis (Branford, Conn.) followed Altenau in 11th and 12th place with times of 27:06.03 and 27:06.69 respectively.
Rounding out the field of competition for the Crusaders was senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) in 23rd place with a time of 27:44.36, freshman Kevin Turner (Charlton, Mass.) in 30th place with a time of 28:16.66, freshman Dylan Leazes (Providence, R.I.) in 31st place with a time of 28:18.76 and senior Garret Huddy (Columbus, Ohio) in 32nd place with a time of 28:18.89.
Holy Cross continues competition on Friday, Sept. 18 at the National Catholic Championship at Notre Dame. Select members of the team will compete at the Jim Sheehan Classic on Sept. 18 and at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 19.
