Men's Cross Country, Track & Field Announce Captains

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross Richard L. Ahern '51 Director of Cross Country, Track and Field Jim Kavanagh has named seniors Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) and Kyle Rougeot (Torrington, Conn.) as captains for the 2009 cross country season. Richard and Rougeot, along with senior Chase Kennedy (Marblehead, Mass.) will serve as captains for the track and field team during the 2009-2010 season.

Last season, Richard led the cross country team with a 17th place finish at the National Catholic Championship (25:49), was named Patriot League Runner of the Week (Oct. 14) for his performance at the New England Championship (58th, 25:46), finished fourth overall at the Blue Devil Invitational (27:42) and ran a time of 25:39.6 at the Patriot League Championship. On the track, Richard finished 10th in the 10,000 meter run at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship with a time of 31:39.37 and took 10th in the 5,000 meter run at the Patriot League Indoor Championship with a time of 14:54.56.

Rougeot led the cross country team with a third place finish at the Blue Devil Invitational (26:50), he finished first for Holy Cross at the NCAA Northeast Regional with an overall finish of 111th and a time of 34:42.1 and ran a time of 25:35.1 at the Patriot League Championship. During the indoor track and field season, Rougeot finished 8th in the 5,000 meter run at the Patriot League Championship with a time of 14:51.89 and took 15th in the 5,000 at the New England Championship with a time of 15:09.73.

During the 2008-2009 season, Kennedy led the track and field team in the sprint events, placing 13th in the 400 meter dash at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship with a time of 52.17 seconds. At the Patriot League Indoor Championship, he placed 13th in the 400 with a time of 51.71 seconds and took 24th in the 400 at the New England Indoor Championship with a time of 50.57 seconds.

The Holy Cross men's cross country team returns 19 letterwinners from the 2008 team and welcomes five newcomers to the team.
