WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.), a member of the men's track and field team, received the John P. Cooney Memorial Award. The award was presented at the 54th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Satruday, May 2.
The Cooney Award is presented each year to a senior letterwinner who has performed beyond all expectations with courage, loyalty and dedication. Maggio holds the school record in the 200-meter dash (22.39 seconds), and also ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay team which posted the best time at Holy Cross in over 25 years (3:16.55).
A co-captain of both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams, he has been selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll three times. Maggio is also a member of the Holy Cross Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was a SPUD tutor at Burncoat High School, was a participant in the Relay for Disaster Relief, and founded the after-school running club at Vernon Hill Elementary School.
