Worcester, Mass. - Junior Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) was named Patriot League Men's Field Performer of the Week for the week ending April 8, as announced by the league on Wednesday morning. Couture took second in the javelin throw at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. The Crusader threw a distance of 63.02 meters (206 feet 9 inches), a personal record. With that mark, Couture qualified to compete at the NCAA East Regional Meet, being held at the University of Florida at Gainesville. This is the second consecutive season that Couture has qualified for the NCAA Regional, making him the first track and field athlete in Holy Cross history to ever qualify for the meet two times.
Earlier this season, Couture threw a distance of 56.63 meters (185 feet 9 inches) at the Northeastern Spring Open on March 24. At the UMass Five-Way meet, Couture took second with a throw of 60.33 meters (197 feet 11 inches). With his throw from the Colonial Relays, Couture is eligible to compete at the New England Championship, the IC4A Championship and the NCAA East Regional meets.
Couture and the Holy Cross men's track and field team will compete in the Bernard Solomon Invitational at Northeastern University in Dedham, Mass. on Saturday, April 14th. The meet will begin at 10:00 am.
