Holy Cross Track & Field Competes At Havard OpenDec. 8, 2007
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams continued the 2007-2008 season Saturday at the Harvard Open hosted by Harvard University. Junior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) each won an event in Saturday's meet. Courtney took first in the 400m, while Pruszko took it in the 500m which qualified her for the ECAC meet. Senior Kevin Dowd (Broad Brook, Conn.) took a fourth place finish in the triple jump and junior Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) finished sixth in the shot put.
Courtney won the 400m with a time of 58.87, while Pruszko won the 500m event with a time of 1:15.32, which was .28 seconds under the ECAC qualifying time. Junior Lesley Bautista (St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador) had another great weekend placing third in the pole vault with a height of 3.5m. In throwing, junior Laura Flannery (Franklin, Mass.) took an eighth place finish in the weight with a distance of 11.22m.
On the men's side, Dowd, who took fourth in the triple jump, jumped a distance of 13.32m. Medeiros, who finished sixth in the shot put, threw a distance of 13.77m. Senior John Meikle (Newport, R.I.) finished sixth in the pole vault with a height of 4.10m. Sophomore Chase Kennedy (Marblehead, Mass.) finished 12th in the 400m with a time of 52:84.
The men's and women's teams will travel to Boston University on Saturday, December 15 to begin the Boston University Mini Series that will continue thru January 5th. The meet is set to start at 8:00 am.
