PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Martin Hyland (Rye, N.Y.) took first place in the 55-meter dash as the Holy Cross men's track and field team kicked off the 2008-2009 indoor season at the Alden Invitational hosted by Brown University on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Hyland crossed the line in 6.85 seconds to win the 55-meter dash, while junior Andrew Malloy (Dunbarton, N.H.) finished in fifth place with a time of 7.16 seconds. Freshman Jan-Michael Llanes (Pamona, N.Y.) finished the one-mile run in fifth place with a time of 4:50.62, followed by senior Brian Miller (Wayne, N.J.) in sixth place with a time of 4:53.05.
In the field events, senior Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Crusaders with a second place finish in the shot put with a distance of 44'05.50", while sophomore Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) took fourth with a distance of 41'02.50". In the long jump, sophomore Gregory Liguori (Norwood, N.J.) finished fifth with a jump of 18'07.25".
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Harvard Open in Cambridge, Mass.
