Men's Track & Field Finishes 23rd At New England Championship

HANOVER, N.H. ­-- The Holy Cross men's track and field team finished in 23rd place at the 2007 New England Outdoor Championship, which took place at Memorial Field on the campus of Dartmouth University. The Crusaders totaled nine points over the weekend to earn their 23rd-place finish, while Rhode Island claimed the team title with 155.5 points.

Junior Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) led Holy Cross by placing second in the javelin with a throw of 61.31 meters. Senior Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) added a 10th place finish in the hammer throw (50.65 meters), while sophomore Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.) came in 11th in the 200-meter dash (22.06) and senior Christopher Bier (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was 12th in the 400-meter hurdles (56.05).

The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Sean Murphy (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Chase Kennedy (Marblehead, Mass.), Maggio and junior Michael Ricotta (Cross River, N.Y.) also had a strong performance, finishing in eighth place with a time of 3:20.46. In addition, the 4x100-meter relay team placed 10th.

Select members of the Holy Cross track and field teams are scheduled to continue their season at the NCAA East Regional, to take place from May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla.
