Friday Competition Complete At 2007 New England Championship

HANOVER, N.H. - Friday's competition is now complete at the 2007 New England Outdoor Track & Field Championship, which is taking place at Memorial Field on the campus of Dartmouth University. The Holy Cross men currently stand in a tie for 10th place, scoring eight points thus far. The Crusader women have not scored a point yet, but did have several strong performances on their first day of action.
For the men, junior Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) scored all eight of Holy Cross' points with his second place finish in the javelin. Couture had a throw of 61.31 meters, to finish behind only Ryan McCarthy of Rhode Island (62.55 meters). Senior Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) added a 10th place finish in the hammer throw (50.65 meters), while sophomore Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.) came in 11th in the 200-meter dash (22.06 seconds).
On the women's side, sophomore Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.) came in fourth in the preliminary heats of the 400-meter dash (57.65 seconds), and sophomore Dannielle Meder (Chicopee, Mass.) placed fourth in the heats of the 100-meter hurdles (14.63 seconds). Both Courtney and Meder will move on to their event finals on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.) is also in position to score points for the Crusaders, as she stands in eighth place in the heptathlon with 2,293 points through the first four events.
