Track & Field Wraps Up Competition At New England Championship

AMHERST, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's 4x100 meter relay team set a new school record as the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the New England Championship in Amherst, Mass. on Saturday, May 9. The men's team finished 35th out of 41 teams, while the women's team finished ninth out of 36 teams.

The 4x100 meter relay, ran by sophomore M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.), junior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), sophomore Caitlin White (Miller Place, N.Y.) and senior Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland.), finished in third place with a new school record time of 47.58 seconds. The 4x400 relay team of junior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.), senior Lauren Courtney (Ashland, Mass.), senior Lauren Tallon (Lake Forest, Ill.) and sophomore Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.), finished in fourth place with a time of 3:54.03. The 4x800 relay, ran by freshman Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.), junior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.), freshman Alison Nadeau (Norfolk, Mass.) and sophomore Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.), finished in seventh place with a time of 9:20.44.

The women's team was led in the individual events by a second place finish in the 200 meter dashy by Reid. Reid's time of 24.30 narrowly missed her own school record of 24.26. Reid also took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.02 seconds. In the 800 meter run, Hartnett finished in 12th place with a time of 2:14.26.

In the field events, senior Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) finished 10th in the discus with a distance of 37.89 meters, while junior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) finished 13th with a distance of 36.98 meters. Freshman Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) placed 16th in the shot put with a distance of 11.66 meters.

The men's team was led by senior Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) with a 16th place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.70 meters.

Qualifying members of the men's and women's track and field team will participate in the IC4A/ECAC Championships on May 15-17 in Princeton, N.J.
