PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Providence to compete in the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday. Other teams in the field included Providence, Boston University, Boston College, Rhode Island, Northeastern and Connecticut. Brown University hosted the event, which is the Crusaders' final tune up before the Patriot League Championships.
For the men, sophomore Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) continued his great 2006 outdoor season with a runner-up finish in the javelin throw. His throw of 181'4" finished just behind the leader, Paul Rosiak from Brown.
Junior Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) took fourth in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 165'5" to continue his solid junior outdoor season. Also putting together a strong performance was junior Bernard Ozarowski (Princeton, N.J.), who finished third overall in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:29.53.
In the men's pole vault, sophomore Conor Meikle (Newport, R.I.) finished in fourth place with a clearance of 14'3.25".
Senior Rebecca Cole (Barrington, R.I.) led the Holy Cross women's team with a third place finish in the hammer throw. The senior's toss of 151'8" placed her just behind two women from UConn who took first and second.
Two women's relay teams placed fifth overall. The 4x100-meter team finished in a time of 50.51 and the 4x400-meter team had a time of 4:06.76.
Freshman Katherine Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) took fifth in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 118'9". Also senior Jessica Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) finished sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 10'11.75".
The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams will host the Patriot League Championships this Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6. Events will begin on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Hart Center Track Facility in Worcester.
