PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Providence, R.I., to compete in the Brown Springtime Invitational this weekend. There were no team scores, but the men's team had 10 top 10 finishes, led by John Meikle (Wayne, N.J.) with a first place finish. The women had eight top five finishers, led by Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) and Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) with second place finishes.
Leading the men was Meikle with his first place finish in the pole vault at 14'3.25". The next highest finisher was Robert Farrelly (East Northport, N.Y.), placing fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:29.38, and Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.), coming in fifth in the discus with a toss of 143'5".
For the women, Pruszko took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.76, and Luke placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:31.16. The 4x100-meter relay team took third with a time of 48.66. In addition, M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.67, and sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84.
The men's and women's track and field teams return to action this Friday, May 2, when they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the first day of the Patriot League Championship.
