Worcester, Mass. - The Crusaders track and field team placed third with 125.5 points at the Holy Cross Invitational held Saturday, April 23 at the Hart Track and Field Complex.
In the hammer throw Sophomore Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) threw a distance of 51.04-meters / 167 feet and five inches to claim the top-spot in the event. Also competing in the hammer throw was junior Stephen Laney (Cohasset, Mass.), who placed third, throwing 44.53-m / 146'01".
Junior Robert Leader (Leominster, Mass.) sprinted to a first-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.99. He also anchored the 4x400-m relay team that finished first with a time of 3:24.39.
In the 110-m hurdles sophomore Christopher Bier (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) placed second, clocking a time of 16.09. Bier also competed in the 400-m hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 57.97.
Senior Brendan Kearney (Haddonfield, N.J.) came in third in the 800-m with a time of 1:57.99.
In other field events newcomer Nathaniel Couture (Taunton, Mass.) finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 52.34-m / 171'09", while junior Ryan Daniel (East Hempstead, N.H.) placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.75-m / 5'8.75". Junior Stephen Virgilio (Portland, Maine) finished third in the discus with a distance of 32.02-m / 105' 01".
The University of Maine was the meet's team winner, claiming 164 points, while Patriot League rival Colgate finished second with 137 points. In a dual meet with scores extracted from the Invitational, Colgate defeated Holy Cross by three points, 776-73.
The Crusaders next host the Holy Cross Quad Meet on Tuesday, April 26 at the Hart Track and Field complex.
