Boston, Mass. - The men's and women's track and field team sent eight athletes to the 2008 indoor ECAC/IC4A championships hosted by Boston University this weekend. On the women's team Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.), Lesley Bautista (St. John's, Newfoundland), Katie Clay (Beverly, Mass.), Courtney Burgess, Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.) and Alexandra Swiatocha (Mahopac, N.Y.). For the men was Michael Ricotta (Cross River, N.Y.) and Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.).
The men turned out an amazing performance by Ricotta as he finished 5th in the 400-meter with a time of 48.00. During trial Ricotta broke the school record from the 1930's with a time of 47.84. This marks the sixth straight race for Ricotta with a time under 50 seconds and the second best performance by a Patriot League athlete for the season. His 5th place finish, at the IC4A, is the highest finish by a Holy Cross athlete in over 20 years.
Fidelus competed in the 800-meter race finishing 23rd with a time of 1:54.61.
For the women Pruszko took 15th in the 500-meter race with a time of 1:15.41. Bautista took 10th in the pole vault with a height of 11-11.75. The women's 4x800-meter race finished 11th with a time of 9:18.12. Apart of the team were Clay, Meagher, Burgess and Swiatocha.
The Holy Cross track and field teams has their first meet of the outdoor season March 22 at Dedham, Mass for the Husky Sprint Invitational. Start time is set for 11:30 am.
