ORONO, Maine - Seniors Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.) and Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) each had first place finishes for the Crusaders as the Holy Cross men's track and field team competed at the Maine Open at the UMaine Field House in Orono, Maine on Saturday afternoon. Holy Cross finished third with 103 points, while Maine claimed first with 124 and Central Connecticut State took second with 116.
Holy Cross was led in the field events by Mandravelis with a first place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 16.11 meters, while sophomore Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) took second with a distance of 13.51 meters. Medeiros finished first in the shot put with a throw of 14.40 meters, while McKenna took third with a distance of 13.26 meters.
On the track, the Crusaders were led by junior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) with a second place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:46.82. Senior Andrew Maggio (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.20, while senior Brad Mish (Hadley, Mass.) and freshman Ben Brink (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished second and third in the 1000 meter run with times of 2:40.36 and 2:40.95 respectively. Senior Stephen Schoenberger (North Hampton, N.H.) and freshman Stephen Madsen (New Providence, N.J.) finished second and third in the 800 meter dash with times of 2:00.53 and 2:00.95.
Holy Cross travels to Boston, Mass for the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10:45 a.m.
