Orono, Maine - The Holy Cross men's indoor track and field team was defeated by Maine, 105-72, on Saturday, Feb. 5.
Junior Robert Leader (Leominster, Mass.) placed first in both the 200 and 400 meter dash with a times of 22.74 and 50.31, respectively.
The Crusaders' 4x440 yard relay time, consisting of junior Patrick Jones (Danvers, Mass.), seniors Brendan Kearney (Haddonfield, N.H.) and Sean Flood (Clive, La.) and freshman Michael Ricotta (Cross River, N.Y.), finished first with a time of 3:31.95
In the 500 meter dash Kearney came in second with a time of 1:07.82. Rounding out the field was freshman Sean Murphy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior Thomas Picanco (Cameron Park, N.Y.), who placed third and fourth with time of 1:11.50 and 1:15.43, respectively.
Placing second and third in the 800 meter run were juniors Michael Yatco (Williston Park, N.Y.) and Thomas Serveo (Westfield, Mass.) with times of 2:03.04 and 2:07.59, respectively.
Junior Daniel Ryan (East Hempstead, N.H.) cleared 1.73 meters to place second in the high jump, while newcomer Kevin Dowd (Broad Brook, Conn.) came in third, jumping 1.73 meters. Dowd also placed second in the long jump and triple, leaping 5.98 meters and 12.60 meters, respectively.
Sophomore Nicholas Carr (Concord, Mass.) placed second in the weight throw, heaving 15.95 meters.
Senior John Nieskens (Peterborough, N.H.) finished third in the one mile run with a time of 4:24.92. He also placed third in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:41.14.
The Crusaders next compete at the St. Valentine Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 11-12, in Boston, Mass.
