KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Sebastian Fidelus (Jersey City, N.J.) and junior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) each had a first place finish at the Rhody Quad held at the Mackal Field House at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, Jan. 24, but it was not enough as the Holy Cross men's track and field team finished in fourth place. New Hampshire took first with 78 points, Rhode Island finished second with 70, Central Connecticut finished third with 24 and Holy Cross took fourth with 13.
Fidelus finished first in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:31.32, while Richard finished first in the 3000 in 8:35.35. Sophomore Martin Hyland (Rye, N.Y.) finished seventh in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.84 and ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.82. Junior Chase Kennedy (Marblehead, Mass.) finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.37.
In the field events, freshman Michael Millard led the Crusaders with a fourth place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.6 meters and senior Stephen Mandravelis (Nashua, N.H.) finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.42 meters. Senior Jonathan Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 14.26 meters and junior Nicholas LeBlanc (New Bedford, Mass.) took eighth with a throw of 13.88 meters.
The Crusaders continue indoor competition traveling back to Boston, Mass on Friday, Jan. 30 for the Reebok Indoor Games.
