Sam McGrath Earns Academic All-District Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.), a member of the Holy Cross men's track and field team, has been selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District I squad, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The squad is comprised of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
McGrath served as one of Holy Cross' team captains during the 2013-2014 season, while running in the mid-distance events. He won the 2014 New England indoor championship in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:27.17, and broke the school record in the 1,000-meter run at the 2014 Valentine Invitational (2:25.48). McGrath also owns the second-fastest time in school history in the 500-meter run with a mark of 1:05.13 at Maine in 2014. A three-time selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, McGrath was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for indoor track as a senior. In addition, he received the 2014 Varsity Club Norton Prize.

By earning Academic All-District honors, McGrath will now be on the ballot for the Academic All-America team. The Capital One Academic All-America squad will be announced on June 26.
