BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and sophomore Lucas Keefer (Yonkers, N.Y.) each broke a school record as the men's indoor track and field team traveled to the Valentine Invitational on Saturday. McGrath finished seventh in the 1,000-meter run and posted a record time of 2:25.48 while Keefer took 10th in the 500 with a new school record time of 1:04.70.
Head coach and Richard L. Ahern '51 Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Jim Kavanagh stated, "No question this was the best meet of our season and comes at the perfect time for the string of championships in late February."
Junior Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) surpassed IC4A and New England Championship qualifying standards in the 800 with a time of 1:54.37 (44th). Senior Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) also qualified for the New England Championship in the 200 with a time of 22.59 (56th).
Other top finishers for the Crusaders included sophomore Francisco Tejidor (Coral Gables, Fla.) who set a person-best in the 1,000 at 2:31.58 (34th), sophomore Dennis Muldoon (Weymouth, Mass.) who set a personal-best time in the 5,000 at 14:54.29 (40th) and freshman Michael Andre (Feeding ills, Mass.) who set a person-best time in the 1,000 at 2:32.37 (40th).
Senior Tom Santa Maria (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Conley (Walpole, Mass.) also registered personal-best times in the 800 (2:01.14, 164th) and one mile (4:29.99, 214th), respectively. Sophomore Tim Dunn (Fords, N.J.) added a 17th place finish in the pole vault (4.35 meters), senior Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) finished 20th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.58) and junior Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) took 26th in the weight throw (13.98 meters).
The men's indoor track and field team will return to action on Feb. 21-23 at the Patriot League Championship.
