CAMBRIDGE, Mass – Three Crusaders set career-personal bests as the Holy Cross men's indoor track and field team began its 2013-2014 campaign on Saturday at the Harvard Open. Senior Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) and junior Sean Carey (Newburyport, Mass.) each finished second in their respective events with Moczula crossing the finish line in the 60-meter hurdles in a career-fastest time of 8.41 and Carey posting a career-best distance in the weight throw of 15.31 meters. Senior Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) also posted a third place finish in the one mile run with career-best time of 4:22.19.
Other top finishers for the Crusaders included junior Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) who finished first of two runners in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:06.64. Seniors Nick Athanasidy (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) finished second and third in the 600-meter run with times of 1:22.85 and 1:24.83, respectively.
Freshman Brendan Doherty was the second runner in the 500 finishing behind Dutton at 1:08.62, senior Zach Maddigan (Middleboro, Mass.) took fourth in the triple jump at 11.39 meters and freshman Benjamin Ghiano finished behind Athanasidy and Petsky in fourth place in the 600 at 1:26.63. Junior Vuong Tran (Worcester, Mass.) rounded out the top-five finishers for Holy Cross, taking fifth in the final of 60-meter dash with a time of 7.22 seconds.
The men's indoor track and field team will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
