WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) led the Holy Cross men's track and field team in the first day of action at the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Championship on Friday at the Hart Track. Davies finished in seventh place in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes to qualify for tomorrow's final heat with times of 11.08 and 22.24 seconds, respectively. Senior Chase Bradford (West Bridgewater, Mass.) earned the top finish for the Crusaders landing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 54.92 meters.
Sophomore Paul Coulter (Lakeville, Mass.) finished 11th the 110-meter hurdles in just under 16 seconds with a time of 15.99 to lead the Crusaders in that event. Fellow classmate Thomas St. Cyr (Temple, N.H.) finished closely behind Coulter in 12th place with a time of 16.08 seconds. Sophomore Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) also competed in the event and crossed the finish line with a time of 16.52 seconds.
Senior Michael Millard (Manhasset, N.Y.) and sophomore Amenawon Johnson (Framingham, Mass.) each competed in the first five events of the decathlon, finishing day one in 11th and 12th places with a total of 2,729 and 2,693 points, respectively. Freshman John Cicchitti (Warminster, Pa.) was the only Holy Cross student-athlete to compete in the 10,000-meter run and finished with a time of 32.34.03.
The 4x800-meter relay team comprised of freshman Trevor Dutton (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.), Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Nick Athanasidy (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) took fourth place with a time of 7.38.83. After one day of competition, Navy currently holds first place with 57 points, followed by Army with 49 and two-time defending champion Bucknell with 32. Holy Cross is currently tied for seventh place with six points.
The Crusaders will finish the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Championship tomorrow, Saturday, May 5, beginning at 10:15 a.m.
